Hello Audio Engineers,
I read in these fora mention of DSP based room optimization. I have a
highly non optimum room so anything helps.
Can anyone recommend software/hardware that does this? Relatively easy
to implement would be a good starting point.
thanks

It has been part of Meridian HT processors since at least 2004.

It operates sligthly diffrent , its active under 300Hz and also corrects
the time domain you build several
Filters with sligthly diffrent target reverb times . The nodes does not
only have higher amplitude but also ladt longer in the time domain.

The 300Hz cut has to do with some phycoacoustic concern with direct vs
reflected sounds
, the brain actually have a kind of "gating function" even in a ver
reverberating room you can usually spot sound sources.
So messing things much with the direct sound to achieve better reflected
response mau not be perfect.

I have not fiddled with mini dsp , but certainly modern products will
have settings for you to fiddle with.

But as usuall DSP can make a good thing better . Not save a bad system.

For example realy awkward speaker placement or speakers with weird polar
paterns migrh be problematic.

Or trying to fill the nulls . Damping the peaks may be well and good but
trying to fill the nulls with 10-20db more acoustic output places high
demands on powerhandling and linearity. Robust speakers are
recommended.

Enjoy.

I really like room corection , a bonus is that subwoofers blends in much
better, the disconnect that always there is much less obvious.

Concur with the recommendation of MiniDSP

Also, similar capabilities are common features of mid-priced and upwards
mainstream Audio Video Receivers from Denon, Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, and
others under the trade names Audyssey, YPAO and MCACC,

There are also other stand-alone boxes that compete with the MiniDSP
product under various names

Hi Mongo,
Are you referring to low-frequency optimization (bass-only in the modal
region) or over the full frequency range? For low-frequency
optimization in the modal region only, there is a freeware available
called Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO) that I wrote. It's intended for users
having multiple subwoofers hooked up to their system using something
like a miniDSP 2x4 or Behringer DCX2496. It's available through the
link in my profile. Also, there is an '_article_by_miniDSP_'
about using MSO in conjunction with their Dirac-based DDRC-88BM, which
is an 8-channel analog in/analog out setup. Dirac is well-liked for the
full-range equalization but I have not tried it.
