[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Power failures and brownouts

We've been experiencing a nasty winter this year with trees falling out
lines, causing power failures and brownouts. Sometimes the power will
come on, go off then go on again. Man, I hate that.

The only equipment I have that I care about is my vintage receiver,
Transporter and (to a lesser extent) my Joggler which controls it. I
couldn't care less about my other stuff, it's all junk. My PC is nothing
special and I have disconnected back up hard drives for everything.

So far I have not used the above equipment during any of these nasty
incidents but the Transporter was plugged in for one of them...thank
goodness it's ok.

I'm just wondering what my options are here? I don't want a low cost UPS
that pumps bad current into my stuff and I don't have big bucks for a
true sine-wave version.

I thought about buying one of these...

After a power outage, the plug stays off and has to be manually reset.
AT LEAST this way I won't have to worry about a surge of power when it
comes back on or those ON-OFF-ON scenarios. (This is work place safety
mechanism in case anyone is wondering why it has such a "feature")

I don't you need to worry too much about "bad electricity" if you are
using a switching power supply...

I would bet the OPs amp does not use a SMPS, for a start. Have not tried
running any hi-fi gear off my UPS but I'd bet the designers did not
design with that in mind so I'd not be surprised to find at least some
mechanical vibration from the PSU. Hopefully nothing much would get
through to the audio signal though.

This is a pain but one I've not had to deal with fortunately so far ..
(probably next winter for the UK!!)

I thought the question was about the transporter.

I thought the question was about the transporter.
Transporter and other gear. (Joggler and Receiver).

I ended up buying one of those cords I have linked above. At least when
the power goes out my gear (assuming it works like it should) will stay
off until I'm comfortable the power stays on. I don't usually put cords
between my wall socket and surge strip but this one one is quite short
and has a thicker gauge cord, so I think all will be fine.

I assumed it would be more than just the players..

Most UPS just provide pass-through when the mains supply is on so it's
not like the power signal is modified unless it's actually running on
battery, so that would be the ultimate protection anyway.

As for the Joggler, it sounds awful no matter what, run it on whatever
you like it won't make any difference..

I use the joggler strictly for controlling.
