Anyone have this yet? Does it really make a difference having the
seperate oscillators?
I have the standard version and am wondering if I should upgrade.

But have absolutely no idea, what the exact difference soundwise this
would/could make.

Should make jitter measurements better... But I doubt it'll be audible
unsighted. Nevertheless, it is an inexpensive upgrade.

If you have a choice, just use an asynchronous USB DAC from the Pi. Much
better than any S/PDIF from an objective measurement perspective -
again, not that I think in blind listening you're going to hear whatever
jitter differences.

I didn't get a Digi+ Pro, but just got HiFiBerry's DAC+ standard up and
running this afternoon. Added it to the Raspberry Pi 3 I got for
Christmas.

Made myself a little basement system with my aged LS3/5a clones and was
very impressed with the improved sound quality of this DAC. Much better
than the onboard miniplug output of the Raspberry Pi board by itself.

The only thing I'm not impressed with was the black acrylic case. It
relies on a bit of tension to hold the case together and the top piece
broken under that tension a few minutes after assembly. Recommend you
got a step or two up if you get one of their cases.

I wanted to get a Pi to run LMS so I decided on the Pro since it wasn't
much more money.
It sounds better than my Duet optical out. But after reading their
description I decided to run the RCA out because they pointed out it was
what made a difference(output transformer), plus you need to ground your
DAC.

https://www.hifiberry.com/products/digiplus/

One thing I recommend is to shut down the Blue Tooth I also shut down
the wifi. I was getting very slight drop outs not really irritating but
occasionally. I guess the Digi+ had problems big time because of the
Raspberry Pi's blue tooth, which should've been corrected by now.

& now power supply...

I am not going to go to the effort to change out the power supply but
what he says makes sense.

Well, I wonder what Archimago would think about the waterbubbles that
are controlled by the linear power. Archimago wrote a great review about
the Dac+ Pro, so I do wonder why the video reviewer thought the normal
sound of it was so horrible and that the linear power created a great
audiophile sound.

I have been using the Digi board in combination with optical and a
Schiit Bifrost DAC, I really like the sound. Always on the search for
something a bit better, I got the Digi+ Pro now (since yesterday) again
via optical, I have not done any extensive testing, but it sounds very
good. If it sounds better, honestly no idea yet.
I could theoretically understand that a power supply for a DAC might
make a difference, but the reviewer stated that it also made a dramatic
difference with the Digi. That is something I really do not understand.
Maybe someone could clear that up.

I am more of an emotional listener, I know when it feels (sounds) right
and when something is somehow lacking or off. All very personal
observation.

I will continue listening.

But I am just comparing it to the Duet. I am feeding an old Cambridge
Audio DacMagic.
I would be interested if you think you can hear a difference between the
optical output and the RCA. It seems to sound more defined but I have
old ears & it could be the placebo effect:rolleyes:
The same reviewer has some videos on speaker placement & I like how he
points out to change the acoustics of a room requires taking out
walls:rolleyes: And I can image a few fanatics doing that but most
people deal with reality. He concedes it isn't rational when he brings
it up. I just couldn't resist sharing his review though.

If you have some more time to waste you might watch this guy. I agree
with his premise that audio gear doesn't need to be expensive but
unfortunately his technical prowess isn't up to the task. Ultimately
it's what you enjoy & if it sounds good to you then that's all that
counts. I have always considered recorded music is a poor substitute for
live music:p And I have seen & heard some bad shows.

I got mine running on a Raspi3 with Max2Play at the moment , I may
switch to DietPi later .

I'm going to have tonigths listening on my new digi+ :)

Initial impression ,no glitches or skips or whatnot will try sync
between another PI later to see if that turns up any issues.

It's probably beyond my (or anyone’s) ability to discern , so its as
good as any other modern source component .
Or any other source i have at my disposal . Subjectively it's really
good but i don’t trust my sighted judgement :D

I liked the transformer insulated option due to the fact that also tries
to use the hdmi for other purposes .

I have Max2plays delivered PSU it seems to work for me , anything not
silly money out there if it falls short ?

This little thing may very well be the source component of the day :)
what else do you really need ? Maybe i should have built it in a better
box than the plastic one the hdmi cable does lift the whole thing

I can repeatedly tell blind the difference between optical and coax
S/PDIF into my DAC1.

I'm aware of the good reasons this ought not to be possible. But I can
do it.

There are also good reasons why it could be possible with (some) DACs
that are sensitive to electrical noise and ground/earth issues. Optical
provides total galvanic isolation, coax doesn't.
