Yes I can't find any really good hifi dealer in my own city, we have one
but they are not truly independent it's a hifi chain store that only
caries some brands and are tied to others by common owners . This chain
also has local oligopoly in Sweden for certain brands ( another problem
).
So I to think they are struggling and the luxury brands like McIntosh
needs vider exposure .
It is nowadays some kind of quest :) to find a hifi dealer, a days
outing by car you may need to make an appointment .
I actually think it's good news .
The specialist hifi stores is usually a part of the problem , as their
hair brained way of trying to sell us the cult of audiophilia probably
scares away more potential customers than they generate .
If this loosens up maybe other bad sales practices can go away . In smal
countries and most of Europe there is a lot of price fixing and local
monopoly going on, far to many importers distributors and middle men !
Yes some brands actually deny you to sell thier products !
The price fixing is so rampant that grey import is considered a
"problem" hmm hmm :D
For example my favourite hifi dealer , located in a town 200km from
where I live now naturally ,are competent enough to sell Meridian etc .
But he want to also include B&W speakers in his line up but he can't as
B&W has opted to sell by a certain chain store ? How that practise is
even legal is beyond me .
He moved on to also sell and install complete home automation and whole
house audio and video installations for wealthy clients this a better
business , the really expensive kind . Cost like the most expensive high
end setups but the market is magnitudes bigger .
Natural to the aging hifi business there recommended price listed
floating around , the brand importer has already set the price for all
the stores .
Yes to more internet sales .
