Discussion:
Logitech and Squeezebox

Just curious is this going to kill this great product or will it make it
even better. I think I may have bought my last Squeezebox. In my opinion
it will only be a matter of time before this site is assimilated into
Logitechs site. I has utter shock run through me and thought it was an
error when the faq went to Logitech. I am sad. Am a paranoid or will
this go the way of all products that get aquired by larger companies.
How long will it be before we have windows licensing integrated into
this product. Please tell me I am wrong.

It's taken you over seven years to get around to responding - well
done!
That must be some kind of record.
It would have been more prudent to let sleeping threads lie ;)

Who knows, but hey, let's look on the bright side.

There are loads of threads covering this already.

Over 7 years later and let's say you are 2/3 wrong. This site continues
to thrive and is the most active, product-based forum I've encountered.
LMS development continues privately with the goal of it continuing to
function without MSB.com. There are now multiple solutions for non-SB
players that work seamlessly with LMS. Logitech's stewardship of the
product line was clumsy and unfortunate (there's your 1/3 correct, the
product got killed commercially), but the core functionality of our
Squeezeboxen continues and will do so for the foreseeable future. I, for
one, pick up SB units on e-bay as needed to keep one or two on the shelf
and I continue to help family and friends set up their own LMS/SB
systems to enjoy the benefits I have had for so many years.

NAD C160 -> 2 x NAD C272 -> Quad 22L2

Witty responses like that take time to formulate. But it took only two
minutes more to go back and edit something in the original post. Hmm.

What are these solutions? I still think LMS is amazing software and I
am so very grateful that it is being updated and improved again. But I
still worry about what I will do if/when something happens to my
Transporter.

LMS and iPeng is a stunning combination.

LMS and iPeng is a stunning combination.
Squeezeplay, Squeezelite and variants now run on a number of different
HW platforms.

Squeezeplayer + Orange Squeeze provides similar functionality for
Android as iPeng does for iOS.

Eventually the development in 'this thread'
should yield another workable solution.

So far the best quality output will probably be a combination of player
software on a networked micro-device with USB output to an asynchronous
DAC. I expect to see more complete, integrated products emerge (as
compared to DIY projects) along the lines of the 'hifiberry'

Hi,

to say it with Miles slightly changed word:

SQUEEZBOX AINT DEAD, IST DOESN'T EVEN SMELL FUNNY

These open source devices as raspie, cubietruck or wandboard in
combination with a good USB-DAC do a gerat job. LMS is by far the
chaepest and best developed and simplest multi-room to High-End system I
know of. I love it!!!!!

Cheers
Christian
