Discussion:
Use of External DAC with Transporter

I have a new C50 McIntosh Preamp. It has a Digital Analog converter.
Can I:
1. Bypass the DAC in the Transporter (keeping it digital) and use the
fiber optic (Toslink?) out to the external DAC? I'd like to do a sound
comparison. Because of the cost difference and brand name of
McIntosh I'm hoping the McIntosh will sound even better.
2. Could I use the Logitech music server software with a USB out to
connect directly from my lap top into the McIntosh C-50 DAC and Pre-amp?
I don't know how to get the music off the laptop except through the
headphone jack, but there has to be a way to get it out through a USB:
Right?

Thanks for some help!

1) Yes you can use the Toslink
2) There are plugin players like Softsqueeze that can allow you to use
LMS .I havent used this software in years so I dont know how up to date
these
plugins are. Im not certain about this ,so hopefully someone can chime
in about this .

There is Squeezelite and Locally player plugin .

Also try to lever match when listsening a digital vs an analog input on
your preamps may not result in the same volume.

Thanks guys... This will get me started. I think I will also need to
get to know the McIntosh pre-amp better. The manual isn't as detailed
on this topic as I would like. I think I have to assign the inputs.
