[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Where does it end?

The real comedy is that Stereophile fails to draw the obvius conclusiong
from the measurments vs sigthed testing . The total lack of corelation
says something .
Simpletons may conclude that "measurments are useless and dont say
anything" ;)
Think a tiny bit further and you realize that they have proved for years
that thier subjective tests are bunk :D
Reviewers failing to hear obvius problems or liking the product anyway
for some biased reason .
What I have found is that with respect to all the various high end
publications and web sites it's much better to think of the writers and
editors not as reviewers but rather as publicists for the advertisers.
This holds true if the equipment under "review" does not function
properly since the manufacturer (aka advertiser) is always allowed to
make repairs or just send a new piece of equipment. By doing so I render
all those nagging issues like bias, lack of critical reasoning,
disregarding measurements, etc. completely irrelevant since a publicist
would exhibit all the same traits. The key thing to remember is who
these writers are working for, which is not the readers but the
advertisers.

As the saying goes if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, looks
like a duck and smells like a duck well it's a duck!

Long ago I realized I was the weakest link in the reproduction chain.
That's true of all humans but some of us just refuse to admit it.
My mood, physical state, expectations and subconscious biases all
dramatically influence my listening perception. If I find fat purple
wires with magic connectors and drinking diet Coke rather than Pepsi
while holding a picture of my childhood family pet makes my music sound
better, then great! This type of subjective influence is true of all
sensory experiences, whether culinary, visual or whatever.
The irony is the extreme to which admitted subjective audiophiles go in
order to to claim that their opinions are due to anything -but-
subjectivity. That's classic -- apparently subjective audiophiles are
embarrassed by their subjectivity. Hence their overarching disdain for
any type of blind testing that they can't control along with the need to
concoct exotic harebrained technical explanations in an attempt to
justify and explain their perception.
However, I can't claim much more than bemused annoyance by the whole
issue. It's kind of like watching an old "I Love Lucy" rerun -- you've
seen it before and you know she's going to make a mess of things even if
you don't remember that particular episode, but it is still fun to
watch. ;-)
My issue is not with the run of the mill kool-aid drinking audiophile
but the so called gate keepers, e.g. the audiophile press, who may or
may not actually believe the drivel they write. Look at this way, if the
audiophile press flatly declared that anything other than properly
functioning USB cable which meets specifications was not only not
necessary but a just a waste of one's hard earned money would there be
any audiophile USB cables? I don't think so.

Further to my comments, this issue was in the bathroom reading queue
today.

Skipped right over the magnetic things.

Now the iFi wallwart. I haven't read it yet, but why bother with a
subjective review? Run some measurements, see if it produces better
results than any other wallwart. Conclude.

At least take it apart and see what is inside. Same with the N1A.

Well said! And your follow-up comments as well...

Wish we could bottle and sell this level of insight to provide as
antidote to those toxified by the Kool-Aid.

Sadly, I think Ralph is correct in the majority of cases. The folks that
write for the magazines and are the gatekeepers know what they're doing
and the motivation that keeps them doing and writing what they do.
Except for the dullest of the lot, they know that there are tests that
could be done and they know that pure subjective evaluation is limited.

... But the bills still need to get paid :-).

For your buggy whip needs .

http://www.cheshirehorse.com/Buggy-Whip-P6374.aspx

only 14.95$

The buggy whip proverb got me thinking the horse hobby is quite popular
around the world these days , its kind of a luxury not everyone can
care for or feed a horse , or has the time to do that .

And its a global past time and hobby soo .

Wonder if they don’t actually makes more money than some famous high end
brands :) :D I rather sell buggy whips than tube amps if want a a
bussines to live on .

So its will end soon the audio hobby can be rebooted on more sound
principles and eventually becomme a racket again...

For comedy do google the Otelo ultrasound (not Othello they dont even
got that rigth ) a nice tube amp for 600000$

ANother answer is, this ends when the price is inifinity and the amount
of products is zero a limit of a kind.
