Discussion:
Sox upsampling to 352.8/384 for PCM5102

My new USB DAC contains the PCM5102 chip, which bypasses the digital
filter at 352.8kHz & 384kHz.

Is there a way of PCM upsampling to these levels within LMS to
accommodate integers of both 44.1 and 48?

Maybe ,with some editing of the custom-covert.conf file etc . I don't
know the details of it some people have done constant uppsampling to 96k
. I have not heard of anyone manage doing it at even integers ?
So a forum search may turn up something ?

But what kind of squeezebox player do you have none of the hardware
squeezeboxes can output more than 96k . The Touch can be modified to do
192k with the third party EDO app .

So you must have some third party player based on computer or wandbord
or something else DIY . It's unknown to me if triode have managed to get
squeezelite running at 352.8 kHz . Maybe the vortexbox player ?

So there may not be a player aviable capable of doing it ?

Personally I have doubts about the whole idea the filters are there for
a reason and sending aliasing products downstream to your amps may
indeed sound " different " and the uppsampling algo may also sound "
different " if your not carefull with the sox parameters.

Different does not always equal better so be carefull ,it's actually
really hard to know if one was not present at the recording session (
assuming the standard hifi goal of accurate reproduction of recordings ,
you may have substititured that with "sounds good to me" in that case
only you can answer your questions and there is no rigth answer to
anything ) .But depending on the DAC it can be an improvement who knows
. for some reason some dacs do actually sound different at different
rates ? Which I would say is a design error ,but anyway it's not unheard
of .

Good luck with your experiment anyway .

Find out if squeezelite or any other player software can do it .

Find hardware that cannoutput it , third party or DIY no oficla
squeezebox can do it .

Then worry about the exact sox settings that go into your convert.conf
file .

My squeezebox touch detects up to 384kHz as a supported sample rate by
my USB DAC.

Therefore, I don't see any reason why the EDO app won't support 384 via
USB.

John Swenson is doing exactly the same thing with the wandboard for the
communitysqueeze project. He is bypassing the digital filter by using
high sample rates and Sox upsampling.

Can anyone point me in the right direct for suitable convert.conf
commands for this?

Maybe Triode fixed that ( the person behind EDO ) he claimed a limit of
192 for EDO initially but ask triode in his squeezelite tread.

Wand board may support it .

Yeah, you're right. It works at 192, but not beyond
