Much maligned, but much respected by his fans.

The DM10 will be the last AVI product, it seems.

His analysis of the high end is essentially correct . But he simplifies
a bit to get his message trough .

And builds active speakers and promotes that as the way to do stuff ,
which is also esentially correct .
But his brand is not the only good speakers ( which can be the message
sometimes ), but they are probably good .

Avi does not send review samples to typical hifi magazines ( they have
to buy a pair of they want to hear them ) and they do not place ads in
them anymore I think ?

So he got the audiophool press rigth . Even the best review is at is
best basically random ,that's the best you can get with no measurement
and sigthed subjective listening . But it's usually worse as other have
pointed out repeatedly on this forum for example .

It's is rather interesting .

He realised that a correctly designed ( active ) speaker is a hard sell
to the traditional audiophiles , the people that really needs good audio
products has become a cult . Tubes cable lifters and quantum fillters ?
1000$ USB cables ,cargo cult engineering galore .

So jumps off the audiophool bandwagon and tries to find other kinds of
music enthusiast that might be interested in a good speakers . Which is
the rigth thing to do . Get to the 99% that are not audiophiles . But
how to rally interest in something so mundane as a loudspeaker ? It's a
nut to crack , the avarage joe migth se them as all the same .

His message is somewhat unpolished :) AVi might benefit from some pro
help regarding marketing , but it's somewhat endearing that it's not
doing it that way .

But don't forget that even if he/AVi comes of as bit abrasive aggressive
or weird . He's not a charlatan he sells real engineering no snake oil.
So he has the moral high ground .

How many would for example do this . Their flagship speaker recently got
the DAC part upgraded in a general revamp with better drivers and other
adjustment . And the sales info actually says that DAC upgrade in itself
would probably not be audible ? :) refreshing .

Thanks for your insight Mnyb.

It does seem AVI is winding down, with 500-ish of the new DM10 to be
built. After that ....?

But I do agree with you ~ their marketing and general web presence isn't
very slick, and often downright confusing.

Odroid Lms / Raspberry pi Picoreplayer / AVI speakers could make for a
tidy little system.

That's a bit sad ,the market needs more good active speaker and sane
engineering in general :/

Maybe it's time to get a pair of ADM9 or DM5 for my kitchen system , the
cheap fostex speakers I use could be improved on and I do like my active
Adam speaker at my computer desk .

I listen to my main system and the computer system , but not that much
in the kitchen , seems like I have to raise the bar in that area :)

what in the article makes you state that? i surely hope not. they seem
to have a very loyal following. but they don't give them a lot of reason
to upgrade, because their customers tend to stick to what they have. :-)

You need 500W for "normal" listening levels? What's he talking about?

I'm guessing that the 50W amp is made by Creek or Rega. The irony is
that equipment at the price levels he's complaining about is considered
"mid-fi" by many audiophiles or entry level at best.
